100 Monster Hunt: Level Up, a hundred chart game with pink, yellow and green monsters holding multiplication tickets

100 Monster Hunt Digital Game CHALLENGE - Level Up

Multiplication and division facts , factors, Multiples, primes, divisibility, and order of operation  are concepts that  students need at their fingertips in grades 3–6.  100 Monster Hunt: Level Up turns that practice into a strategy game on the hundred chart.

It's the harder version of 100 Monster Hunt, our hundred chart game for grades 1–3. It has the same three monsters and the same race to three in a row, with tickets built for older students: multiplication and division facts, missing factors, fractions of a number, order of operations, and open rules like a prime number or a factor of 36.

Watch it in action

Level Up is a digital game that plays in a web browser. There's nothing to print, cut or laminate, and students don't need logins.

How it works

Pick a monster's ticket

Three monsters hold out tickets: 7 × 8, ? × 4 = 36, and the open ticket "A multiple of 8"

Every turn, three monsters (green, pink and yellow) each hold out a ticket. Every ticket is a number from 1 to 100 in disguise: 7 × 8, ? × 4 = 36, 3/4 of 48. Students choose one, work it out, and tap the answer on the chart. The square fills in the colour of the monster's ticket.

A wrong answer isn't wasted. The game shows the correct answer and the turn passes, so every mistake becomes a quick teaching moment.

"Any square that fits" tickets

After choosing "A multiple of 8", students can tap any multiple of 8 on the chart

Some tickets describe a whole family of numbers: A multiple of 8, Divisible by 6, A prime number, A factor of 48. Students can tap any square that fits, and this is where the strategy is. Here, Player 1 has pink squares on 26 and 37, so the pink "A multiple of 8" ticket lets them take 48 and finish a diagonal.

Three of a colour in a line wins

The win screen shows three pink squares on a diagonal (26, 37 and 48) and the ticket that filled each one

Squares count for everyone. Whoever lays the third square of one colour in a line (across, down or diagonally) wins. Every turn is a decision: which ticket helps my line, and which one would set up my partner? The win screen draws the line and lists each square, the ticket that filled it, and who put it there.

The tickets

Nine example tickets with their answers: 7 × 8, 84 ÷ 4, ? × 6 = 42, 3/4 of 48, 9 squared, 3 + 2 × 4, Double 38, A prime number and A factor of 36

Every answer is a number from 1 to 100.

  • Multiplication facts with factors from 2 to 12 and products up to 100, such as 7 × 8 or the product of 6 and 7
  • Division facts such as 84 ÷ 4 or the quotient of 72 and 8
  • Missing factors such as ? × 6 = 42
  • Square numbers such as 9 squared
  • Fractions of a number such as 3/4 of 48 or 2/5 of 60
  • Two-step problems, most of them testing order of operations: 3 + 2 × 4 is 11, not 20, and (5 + 7) × 3 is 36
  • Two-digit addition with regrouping such as 47 + 38
  • Two-digit subtraction, with and without regrouping, such as 73 − 48 or 86 − 25
  • Half of and double

11 kinds of "any square that fits" rule

  • A multiple of 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9 or 12
  • Divisible by 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9
  • A factor of 24, 36, 48, 60 or 72
  • A prime number
  • A composite number less than 30, 40 or 50, or more than 60, 70 or 80
  • A square number
  • A cube number
  • A common multiple of 3 and 4
  • A multiple of 4 but not of 8
  • Leaves a remainder of 1 when divided by 5
  • An odd multiple of 5

Multiples and divisibility come up most often, because they're what students need to see on the chart.

Three decks

  • Mixed: every kind of ticket, including fractions, order of operations, and 2-digit addition and subtraction
  • Multiply & Divide: times tables, division, missing factors, half and double
  • Factors & Primes: an open rule most turns, so students hunt for multiples, factors, primes and square numbers

What's included

  • A digital hundred chart game for grades 3–6, played in any web browser
  • Solo, or 2, 3 or 4 players taking turns on one device
  • Three ticket decks: Mixed, Multiply & Divide, and Factors & Primes
  • Self-checking answers: a wrong answer shows the correct one and passes the turn
  • A win screen that shows the winning line and the ticket behind each square
  • A solo best score (fewest turns) for each deck
  • A PDF with your private link to share with students

Where it fits in your week

  • Math centres and stations. Two students, one device.
  • Whole class on the board. Play in two teams and let each team argue for a ticket before they tap.
  • Early finishers. Solo mode asks: how few turns can you make a line in?
  • Times tables review. The Multiply & Divide deck keeps fact practice moving.

Standards

  • 3.OA.A.4: Find the unknown whole number in a multiplication or division equation
  • 3.OA.C.7: Fluently multiply and divide within 100
  • 3.NBT.A.2: Fluently add and subtract within 1000
  • 4.OA.B.4: Find factor pairs, recognise multiples, and decide whether a number from 1 to 100 is prime or composite
  • 4.NF.B.4: Multiply a fraction by a whole number
  • 5.OA.A.1: Use parentheses in numerical expressions, and evaluate expressions with these symbols
  • 6.EE.A.1: Evaluate numerical expressions with whole-number exponents
  • 6.NS.B.4: Find common multiples of two whole numbers less than or equal to 12

Quick answers

Do students need accounts? No. It's a link, so there's nothing to sign in to.

How many can play? One to four players, taking turns on one device.

What grades is it for? Grades 3–6. For grades 1–3, try 100 Monster Hunt, which uses place value tickets.

Can I project it? Yes. The chart and tickets are large enough for whole-class play on the board.
